Building mode! Finally got to the stage where my sisters site looks half decent. [check it out here (on a laptop)]. I also created a thumbnail preview in pure JS thanks to this video. Next I will add interactions and make it responsive on mobile
This issue is packed with insights mainly sharing the Internet Trends of 2019, eSports and deep discussion with Naval speaking about wealth creation, happiness and deep tech.

We now have a colour scheme
I also selected a colour scheme for my Sis (she didn’t have one before).
I started off by putting the RBG code for her orange logo in Adobe’s color picker tool and played around with Anagolous, Triad and Complementary colours. Then I created a colour picker on colorlovers.

Internet Trends 2019
Mary Meeker (an American VC and former securities analyst) published her highly anticipated internet trends report this week — read it here or if you’re better with video watch it.
They basically use data to tell stories about business trends, emerging models and changes in consumer behaviours in major/growing markets.
It’s so broad, but for me I go back to these 3:
What do I believe?
Why do I think this?
What concrete evidence do I have to support this?
Also, what decisions can I make based on this? Like I said last week:
Focusing on creating something you want and know how to build because you’ve built it for yourself or someone you care about
What's Next for Esports Startups
A really good discussion focussed on ESports discussing it’s growth, the next frontier in regards to how advertisers/publishers will monetise and how it will impact the business models.
How to promote on Reddit
Reddit is a bit of an untapped goldmine for marketers. The site is made up of thousands of niche communities (subreddits). This gives an opportunity to communicate directly with your audience on reddit.
Apple announces new sign-in tool to compete with Facebook and Google
This will work much like the ‘Sign in with Google/Facebook’ buttons that are all over the web and many apps today - much easier than typing in your email and making up a password for each new service you use

Everybody wants to be healthy, happy and fit
The internet creates one giant aggregator for everything and it creates a long tail of millions of individuals (it gets rid of everything in the middle) - 57:43
AI allows everyone to be creative - 32:44
People who talk about AI automating code have never written serious code…we are no where near anything close to general AI; not in our lifetime
The most powerful people today are the people that are writing the algorithm for Facebook and Twitter - they are controlling the spread of information, they are programming the culture. Reminds me of what Iddris Sandu was saying on Hot 97 about the community needing to participate or create our own platforms
How Nike sold it's first 50,000 shoes
story of how nike sold it’s first 50,000 shoes!
TLDR.
drove to track meets. chatted up coaches / runners
sold out the boot of their car
made index cards for every customer they sold to
and sent personal letter (birthday cards, training tips, encouragement before big races)
essentially all word of mouth
Makers
Came across some interesting people online.
One was a guy who was sharing his story as a a maker.
The guys basically a serial launcher and is open about his failures. Even though he’s been successful (one of his products makes 3KMRR), he says he falls into the trap of falling in love with the idea but not necessarily being profitable.
The only reason I was able to snap out of it is by holding myself to the rule “companies I start need to be able to make $1000 in the first three months.”
It sounds harsh and limiting, and it definitely is both. But a principle like this one, that helps you filter ideas can be your best friend when you’re fooling yourself about possible earning potential.
As obvious as it sounds, when you start a business you need to make money as quickly as possible. Companies that make money stay in business, and then you have the luxury of time to fix things, scale, or hire people to do those things. As Paul Jarvis says: “If you’re a company of one, you’re not relying on massive influxes of cash from investors, so every minute you spend getting set up and started is a minute when you aren’t making money.”
