#73 - Breaking this startup thing down
First of all, I’m grateful to those of you that have been following me from early as I’ve searched for a good balance of what people want to read in my newsletter as well as what I enjoy writing about. The opens and clicks give me good insight.
Like I said in issue 71, t’s time to build real businesses.
Everyone’s focussing on tech but I still see a lack of understanding of basic business principles because the things people are doing just don’t make sense
Over the years, I’ve written about Product Management, Culture, Data and shared useful tools. I feel like I need to break these down from what sounds idealistic to things that will help the community more:
Prototyping - Is at the core of experimentation and is used to help teams learn quickly
Insights - Data tells the truth when you want to lie to yourself
Makers - Just want to build and get shit done. I’m particularly excited to explore this area
Culture - Black and pop culture shape global culture. I will continue sharing these diverse perspectives as there are lots of untapped markets and I can talk well on what I am familiar with
I have a bias towards building great products, but I believe it’s also important to build real businesses especially for those of us operating in niche markets without the bank of mummy and daddy or VC’s ready to write cheques to their friends.
We have seen enough success stories and it’s time to really experiment and build.
FYI: I reserve the right to add more topics along the way and I plan to share more on process, what went wrong and what went well.
