#77 - What an MVP is/isn't. More collaborative Sketch alternative for prototyping
In the last 3 issues I have lightly touched on the fact that I have been building a site (use Wordpress with a good theme, no frills, get someone to teach you), getting analytics setup and doing some users interviews and sharing insights.
For me it’s important that the first version takes the users through the experience. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it does have to be complete. Read here to understand more about what I actually mean.
This week: I did some analysis on the market leaders to find out what people are saying. I just thought about where my users would hang out spending a little bit more time in blogs/forums/reddit/quora/etc. All low hanging fruit.
Prototyping
MVP’s: As I was thinking about how to go about what to build and not to build I decided to learn and unlearn what I have picked up about this ubiquitous term to make sure I placed my focus on the key principles.
I trolled through 12 articles in my Pocket deleted 10 as my thinking has evolved and can honestly say that this one by a Product Consultant and this by the founder of WP Engine are have the best explanations.
You can constantly experiment but Rik Higham of Skyscanner suggests using MVP’s the validate your riskiest assumption.
The shared is to rapidly learn (even if!) what your customers want. Once you have done that you can find out how to market and sell a quality product - even if it’s the tiniest version of a complete product.
It’s okay to feel embarrassed about your MVP
