The Offbeat View - Issue #45 - Here's some ways to avoid the mistakes many small teams make
Hope you are all enjoying the Easter break!
In my experience, the biggest mistakes I see small teams make is worrying over and over about the little things. Rachel Hepworth who is now Head of Growth at Slack unbundles her journey in this YouTube video and talks about the mistakes she made in the early stage of her career.
I will admit it. It is a constant behaviour I try to combat daily but I see the way to many early-stage teams romance about things that don’t really matter.
If you’re an early stage Founding team, my advice is move learning up front and as fast as possible. I know I talk about analytics, but at the early stage you are looking for changes in your product that will have a big upside and it’s all about how well your product can satisfy big market problems.
Let's Build Great Products
Great article discussing some of the challenges of B2B
Thought I would sum it up for you.
- Enterprise is willing to pay to for experiments and proof of concepts as a form of cheap learning not to be confused with traction
- Salesforces & field marketing is expensive, it is better to “pull the market”
- Develop a differentiated proposition
- Pricing is still complicated
- You miss out on benefits of going to market early if you don’t build ecosystem around your product
