Firstly I want to start off by saying sorry for the radio silence, going cold and “ghost”. I lost access to my substack account and life was going on so I didn’t get a chance to really lean onto the Substack support system (they put me in an endless loop of feeling like a number in their ticketing system - thankfully they resolved the issue which is why you’re receiving this)

I even posted on Twitter to see if this would bring more pressure but it wasn’t until I started really hitting the message home on some emails that they took action.

It’s tough market conditions for fundraising, better to be profitable

In the last couple of weeks, big tech firms have done staff cuts (Meta, Twitter, Google, Stripe) and whilst high-growth startups and big tech have these problems, businesses that have grown more carefully and cautiously have the opportunity to eat up market share by focusing more on fulfilling customer needs as their reputation is on the line.

These kinds of businesses may not get the TechCrunch article saying “how I raised £XM or doubled in size” in a year; but they aren’t laying off 40% of their workforce a few years later.

The good news is you can do something about it

For this reason, I’m going to focus less on talking about growth and more on streamlining operations with automations that make life simpler. (If this is not for you feel free to unsubscribe, I don’t want to clog up your inbox).

In the last few months, I’ve been fortunate to speak to business owners who can’t take on additional workload without their labour costs spiralling out of control and are thinking about having tighter management on labour costs and would enjoy controls that allow them to review things at an earlier date.

  • Short for Application Programming Interfaces, APIs allow two applications to talk to each other. Millions of businesses survived during the Covid-19 pandemic, thanks to the flexibility and power that APIs provide.

    • Greater data flow integration

    • The possibility of scaling up and down

Thanks for reading to the end. If you know a business owner who would find this valuable please share with just 1. Word of mouth is still the best form of marketing
